Bali Beans Coffee & Co is a family-based premium Arabica coffee producer from Plaga, Bali. Founded in 1985, the company applies the "From Crop to Cup" model—managing the entire coffee production process, from cultivation, harvesting, processing, to roasting and distribution.
This was revealed by the Owner of Bali Beans Coffee & Co, Ayu Sudana in a press conference at the Bali Beans Coffee & Co coffee shop located on Jalan Umalas, Kerobokan, Kuta, Thursday (4/12/2025).
He continued, Bali Beans focuses on sustainability, the welfare of local farmers, and the preservation of Balinese culture. Bali Beans was founded by a Balinese farming couple, namely his parents named Nyoman Sudana and Wayan Sari, who started growing Arabica coffee on their ancestral land in the volcanic plateau of Kintamani.
By holding the values of Tri Hita Karana—harmony of nature, people, and spirituality—Bali Beans has grown into a world-class local coffee brand. "We are trying to strengthen the company's professionalism through hospitality, coffee education, and the development of retail and export markets," he said.
Growing up surrounded by coffee plantations, Ayu Sudana never imagined that this childhood experience would inspire her to elevate the status of Balinese coffee into a premium product for the international market. This vision became a reality in 2015 with the founding of Bali Beans Coffee & Co, which now works alongside 22 women farmers to produce organic Arabica coffee—an initiative that has been met with enthusiastic responses from consumers around the world.
"Bali Beans Coffee & Co, a premium Arabica coffee producer based in Plaga, affirms its position as one of the drivers of the sustainable coffee industry in Bali. This family company, which was established in 1985, runs an integrated production model "From Crop to Cup", covering cultivation, harvesting, processing, roasting, and distribution," he explained.
Thankfully, this organic coffee is absorbed by international markets, such as the UK, America, Norway, Dubai and a number of other countries. On average per month we produce 1 ton of coffee. In addition to foreign markets, we also fulfill orders from various coffees in Bali which Ayu Sudana continued, currently her company manages 5.5 hectares of land, with 2.5 hectares of which are active coffee planting areas. Bali Beans farmer partners are 22 people, each working on an average of 2 hectares of land. With the superior variety of Kintamani Arabica, the average production reaches ±500 kilograms of green beans per hectare per year. The permanent plantation system is based on Subak Abian, a traditional Balinese cooperative model that emphasizes mutual cooperation and sustainability.
In its production process, Bali Beans applies strict standards: manual selection of ripe fruits, natural, honey, or wet processing, sun drying, grading, and internal roasting with international standards.
All distribution is carried out without intermediaries to maintain quality and ensure fair prices for farmers. Through the edukopi and hospitality programs, Bali Beans opens experiences for visitors in the form of garden tours, visits to roasting facilities, tasting sessions, storytelling, and local community activities. This initiative aims to introduce coffee as part of Balinese culture, not just a commodity.
"The best coffee is born from a responsible process—respecting nature, empowering communities, and creating long-term value," says Ayu. (Sbn)
